IMPORTING
beginning with a layered photoshop file
FILE > IMPORT > photoshop file AS COMPOSITION
new comp will appear in your PROJECT window
double click on the comp to open layers in TIMELINE window
COMPOSITION > COMPOSITION SETTINGS > adjust length of your film (we are doing 2 x 30 second films)
EDITING
twirl down menu below each layer to open TRANSFORM > here you can adjust ANCHOR POINT, POSITION, SCALE, ROTATION, OPACITY
additional EFFECTS are in the EFFECTS
you can add changes to the layer throughout the full timeline, or you can have changes occur over time
KEYFRAMES are like staples, they will hold adjustments in place at a certain spot on your timeline
make sure to SAVE your AE composition on your external harddrive
also save your media cache (the default will place it on the Mac hard drive, and you will not find your work if you change computers)
AFTER EFFECTS > PREFERENCES> MEDIA & DISK CACHE > CHOOSE FOLDER
EXPORTING
After you are done editing and have saved your AE comp
EXPORT > ADD TO ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER QUEUE
in Media Encoder, use these settings
FORMAT > H.264
PRESET > MATCH SOURCE -HIGH BITRATE
OUTPUT FILE > select your external harddrive
push GREEN ARROW
you should see your film rendering (it will look slow) in the encoding preview window
